My Annual Self-Appraisal: Highlights and Lessons from 2024

As the year wraps up, it’s time for my annual self-appraisal—a habit I’ve kept up since 2020 (2020,2021,2022,2023). While I’m not big on New Year resolutions, this post is more about reflecting on and tracking the major events, lessons, and progress I’ve made over the years.

Here’s a quick look at how 2024 shaped up for me:

Personal

  • I started the year with the 4-week Def Reset Challenge, which helped me reset my discipline for the rest of the year.
  • The biggest highlight? We welcomed our second baby girl into the family! Life has been a whirlwind of joy and unforgettable moments.
  • Kept up my reading habit, exploring books that challenged my thinking and offered new perspectives. It’s always fascinating how much a good book can reshape your worldview.

Professional

  • Built a small app for personal use from scratch. It was both fun and a great way to learn.
  • Transitioned into Product Management—a role I’ve been aiming for after years in sales and channel management. It’s been both challenging and rewarding to tackle problems from a completely new perspective and learn new skills.

Education

  • Completed a few online courses, but my most valuable learning came from the books I read and hands-on experiences from work-related projects.

Health & Fitness

  • Competed in power lifting again in the second half of the year, participating at both state and national levels. I achieved a personal best with a 152.5kg squat at 66kg bodyweight, a milestone I’ve been working toward for a long time.
  • Hit a 5K run PR of 25 minutes—a solid achievement for someone more focused on strength training.
  • Started helping others in my community and inner circle with their fitness goals. Watching others transform and achieve their milestones turned out to be even more fulfilling than my own achievements.

Key Themes of the Year

Fewer, Bigger Priorities

I focused on fewer areas this year, which allowed me to go deeper and make more meaningful progress. This shift is also reflected in how this post is more concise compared to previous years.

Mentorship and Giving Back

Whether in fitness, work, or finances, helping others has been incredibly fulfilling. It’s something I plan to keep prioritizing.

Being Present

I’ve been working on staying more in the moment, and having a toddler has been the perfect practice. Kids have a way of grounding you and making you appreciate the little things in life.

Looking back, 2024 was a year of growth, learning, and meaningful connections. Here’s to carrying this momentum into 2025 and seeing what’s next!
