While thinking about food blogging ideas, I realized that I shouldn’t look elsewhere when I have so many great cooks within my own family.
So, I started my food posts by sharing one of the best recipes within my family – See Mom’s recipe
And today I’ll share another one from my aunt – Andhra Style Fish Curry !!!
Fish curry andhra style – The Recipe
Step 1
The Marinade
500g fish
3tsp salt
3tsp chilli powder
1tsp turmeric powder
Mix these together and keep aside for at least half an hour
Soak a handful of tamarind in water for 15 – 20 mins , this is what gives this curry the tangy taste
Step 2
In a pan on medium flame, add 4 tbsp oil, let it heat up, add few mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds and let them splutter, then add 3 chopped onions, 3 chopped green chillies and 2 tbsp ginger garlic paste.
Saute till onions just about to turn brown.
Step 3
Add the fish marinade to the mix, stir a little and space out the pieces to make sure one is not above the other. Stir a little and close the lid for 2 min
Then squeeze the soaked tamarind into some water.
Add this tamarind water to the mix until it just covers the pieces.
Step 4
Close the lid and let it cook on slow flame, after 10 mins add 2 tbsp garam masala and mix a little.
Another 10 mins later, check for taste, adjust accordingly, add a few coriander leaves and switch off the flame
You’ll know it’s done when you see oil floating on top.
Let it rest for at least an hour, it tastes better the longer its left alone.
Best accompanied by rice, garnish with coriander leaves.
