At the time of writing this article, our city has completed a month in lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic. According to popular opinion, the lockdown may even be extended for another month.
Being an introvert by nature, I thought this lockdown was something I could handle easily when it was first announced. And I did for the most part. I did my home workouts, ate healthy, worked from home and felt in control overall.
However, I failed to account for the fact that 24 hours can be a long time to spend daily, especially if you’re staying alone. No matter how disciplined I tried to be, by late evening I found myself settling in front of the TV with nothing much else to do.
On my first lockdown weekend, after binge watching all the episodes of “ The Tiger King “ ( A bizarre Netflix series ) at one go, I caught myself wondering
“ Why the hell am I watching this s***t? ” and “ Why couldn’t I just stop? ”
That’s when it dawned on me, that I’ve slowly but gradually let things slide. I just did my pre-lockdown daily routine everyday and thought that it would suffice.
But lock downs are different, there’s no commute, there’s no client visits at work, there’s no eating out etc. All of these easily added around 5 hours everyday to my free time and I’ve been squandering it away without even realizing it.
So, after that first week fiasco, I’ve decided to tighten up my daily routine. I have done something similar last year ( I Woke up at 4-30 AM for 21 days – 5 Lessons Learned ). But this time I tried to make it even more compact and comprehensive.
I’ve re-designed my daily routine, assigned different activities to each time of the day, covering all the facets of life I wanted to improve upon.
Here’s the daily routine I’ve designed in an Infographic template.
Summary
Following this checklist will not leave you with much free time while maximizing your productivity. In fact, most of the days, I didn’t even switch on the TV. The routine was so exhausting that I had little energy left to do anything else.
If you wish to take it a step further, rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 5 on each parameter and strive to improve upon your previous day’s score.
Don’t let a virus keep you from realizing your full potential, no matter what the circumstance!!!
